Why No Walden

I called this blog Thoreauly Campering at first. I thought our time in the camper, away from it all and into nature would be our own style and our own small taste of Thoreau's experience he wrote about in Walden Pond. But after only two camping trips, it became evident that that was not the full scope of our adventures, of our frustrations, of our joys. And could try to smash what DID happen into another ideal, or I could keep my own record of our lives as we lived them. I've opted for the second.

And Adventure Time has seemed the most fitting! The summer is barely underway and already it has felt EPIC! Where in past summers we have gone questing for the learning, this summer we have opted to remain in our own back yards and see what comes our way.

We have done Lagoon already. (As requested by the kids, and promised by me in the past: "Why can't we go to Lagoon? Because we are going every where else for bigger adventures! But we'll do that some year when we stay home." This was that year.)

We are volunteering at This Is The Place again, after a 10 year break, and loving being pioneers.

EV is signed up a Broadway camp, a vocal performance camp, and will likely participate in one week of the ballet's Summer Intensive. Eloise is signed up for a Ranch Camp she'll attend with 30 Chinese students and she is on the swim team twice a week. Kai is along for the ride when he is at home, and trying to learn and make money in that time too. And of course, he is off to Boston at the end of June and all of July.

And our home is booked for a total of about 8 weeks this summer so we will be SOMEWHERE, and the plan is to spend most of that time in the camper!

Here are to the adventures I need to catch up on, and the adventures yet to come! Thank you, God, for the strength and energy to live it ALL!
